New Restaurant to Open in Belmont This Weekend

Diners in Belmont are in for a treat this weekend as Seven Oaks Cafe is set to open for brunch on Mother’s Day this weekend. What makes Seven Oaks Cafe unique is the location in the historic John Davidson McLean house that dates back to the 1850’s.

The location of the restaurant is close to Lake Wylie and Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens so it is a great stop before or after visiting either place. There is a garden onsite that will produce food for the restaurant as well as many items sourced from local farmers.

Seven Oaks Cafe is named for the seven magnificent oak trees that surround the home. There is an inside dining room as well as an outdoor patio with additional outdoor space for dining and events.

Brought to you by Chad and Katy Hutcheson of the String Bean with chef Ron Drappeaux, we can’t wait to see what they have cooked up. The building is a mix of historical and modern and the cuisine looks like it may be too. Expect sandwiches, snacks, soups and salads, in addition to brunch favorites

Seven Oaks Cafe is located at 175 Armstrong Road and should be open from 10am to 3pm for brunch on Sundays. Additional hours will be 11 am until 8pm Tuesday – Saturday. They will be closed on Mondays.

Friday Night Live Concert Series Returning to Belmont

Get your dancing shoes ready, Friday Night Live is returning to Belmont after a year away. Beginning this Friday, expect a great time with live music food trucks, a beverage garden, and kids activity zone downtown in an area for pedestrians only. Don’t be left out, this great event brings the entire community together.

Friday Night Live was started around ten years ago and typically brings 6,000 to 8,000 people to downtown Belmont. The city closes the streets to cars so it is safe for families to walk through all of the festivities. The event begins at 6 pm with a D.J. playing songs for an hour until the live music starts. The concert will end at 10 pm.

There are five concerts planned for this season:

Friday, May 4: Coming up Brass
Friday, May 18: Blackwater Rhythm & Blues
Friday, June 1: Steve Ownes & Summertime
Friday, June 22: The Entertainers
Wednesday, July 4: Gary Lowder & Smokin Hot (This is part of Red, White, & Belmont festival and fireworks which includes food, family games and entertainment during the day as well as the concert in the evening followed by fireworks.)

The main stage is on Main Street near Stowe Park. The city is providing additional parking to accommodate guests. This parking will be behind City Hall and off Mill Street. Additional parking is in the works for the parking lot across the street from the General Store. Belmont also recently installed a Wi-Fi zone free for public use.

Last year, there were concerts in Stowe Park. They were such a hit that they will return in September and October. These may be in the park or on Main Street like Friday Night Live. Details are still being worked out at this time and dates have not yet been announced.

Be sure to check out this fantastic event, but if you want to drink alcohol, be sure to bring your I.D. There will be designated areas for alcohol.

Neighborhood Spotlight: Somerset at Autumn Cove

Along the shores of Lake Wylie, Somerset at Autumn Cove awaits those looking for an amazing neighborhood with numerous amenities, lake access, and fantastic schools. Brought to you by Eastwood Homes, Somerset at Autumn Cove is conveniently located in Clover, SC in York County. A trip into Charlotte takes just minutes and will take you to NFL Football, NBA Basketball, Arena Concerts, Museums, National and International employers and much much more.

Somerset at Autumn Cove is located next to Autumn Cove right off Charlotte Highway (49) across the highway from Crowders Creek Elementary School and the CSD Community YMCA. There are many different options close by for shopping, dining, entertainment, outdoor recreation and much more. Also convenient is Fort Mill, SC with many more destinations for shopping, dining, and entertainment.

Don Stephens longtime Lake Wylie Realtor passes away

Don Stephens longtime Lake Wylie Realtor and Partner in Lake Wylie Realty passed away unexpectedly at Home last week. Don was recently awarded the Realtor Emeritus designation from the National Association of Realtors for 40 years of service to the Community and the Industry, no one in this area has ever achieved that status. We used to laugh about the fact that Don probable sold every Home on the Lake at one time or another and some twice. Don knew the Lake like the back of his hand and was the real “MISTER LAKE WYLIE”

Don was a native of Charlotte a true Gentleman and Scholar and will be greatly missed, He is survived by his Daughter Natalie and her Husband Andy Adams of Clover, three Grandchildren and of course all his friends and Business associates over the years. So long Don.

New Homes Coming in and near Belmont Town Center

Builder Eastwood Homes will soon break ground on a new project that will expand Belmont Town Center. This project has been in the works for a while, but the construction will finally begin soon. The parcel was graded and prepared last fall, and the construction permit was approved in February of this year so buildings will soon follow.

Belmont town center is located along South Point Road at R.L. Stowe Road, just across the street from South Point High School and includes a new Harris Teeter as the anchor store. There are also restaurants, medical offices, and a health club that are either open now or will soon open. This makes these homes a great buy as you can walk to most everything you need.

The development will include 76 townhomes and 23 single-family homes. They will wrap around the existing commercial development. There is no information from the builder yet, but we anticipate construction to begin in the early summer on both the townhomes and the single-family homes. The townhomes are projected to have alley-load plans, with garages facing an alley instead of being in the front. This should make for a clean and walkable streetscape for the neighborhood. The townhomes are rumored to have 2 and 3 bedroom plans. No word yet on the design or plans on the single-family homes.

Joining the Eastwoods Project will be another new residential project by AMH Development out of Cornelius. They are planning 83 single-family homes in a community between Stowe Point and Belmont Town Center. This project is still in review by City Council and is projected to be approved for building to begin this summer.

Neighborhood Spotlight: Catawba Crest

Tucked away on one of the deepest coves on Lake Wylie sits a small elegant neighborhood called Catawba Crest. Situated just off Lake Wylie Road, Catawba Crest has a Clover, SC address and feeds to award winning Clover public schools. Convenient shopping, dining, and recreation can be found within a few minutes drive. Access to Uptown Charlotte and the Charlotte Douglas International Airport takes just a short drive. All of these necessities are close by, but you can lose yourself in the peaceful neighborhood on the lake.

Many of the homes in Catawba Crest have water view or waterfront parcels. From these homes you have amazing views of the sunrise and sunset each day over the water. Most of the homes were built between 2001 and 2010 and are in great condition. Many were custom built and include luxury features and many have well over 3,000 square feet of living space. Chef’s kitchens, home offices, and owner’s suites are common. Homes take advantage of the views of the lake and include decks, two story great rooms lined with windows, and screened porches. Homes on the waterfront have boat houses, floating docks, boat lifts, and more. Inland homes have wooded large lots with plenty of privacy.

Current public school zoning for Catawba Crest has children attending Crowders Creek Elementary, Oakridge Middle, and Clover High Schools. Please be sure to verify school assignments as zoning boundaries do occasionally change.

In the past year, homes in Catawba Crest have sold for between $390,000 and $523,000. However, none of those homes was waterfront property which typically command a premium. There are currently two homes listed for sale that are waterfront and they have an average list price of $776,950. There is not much turnover in the neighborhood with only 6 or so homes becoming available each year for the last three years. If you want a home in Catawba Crest, you have to act fast when a home comes on the market.

Neighborhood Spotlight: Timberlake

Sometimes you can feel lost among the bustle of a growing city like Charlotte. If you are feeling that way, Belmont is a great place to explore. There you will get the small-town lifestyle and slower pace and there is no better spot to do that than Timberlake. The neighborhood sits just 2 miles from the vibrant downtown area with restaurants, local merchants, quaint shops, and lots of historical character.

Timberlake is tucked in a bend of the South Fork Catawba River off of Armstrong Ford Road on the southwest side of Belmont, North Carolina. There is easy access to major highways for a commute to Uptown Charlotte or a trip to Charlotte Douglas International Airport. Closer to home are Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens, Belmont Abbey College and nearby Lake Wylie.

The original section of Timberlake began in the 1980’s and 1990’s and contains homes with a variety of styles and features. There is also a newer section of 27 homes by builder AV Homes with large homes with more current styling. Many of the newer homes are over 3,000 square feet of living space on lots around a half-acre. Many of these homes have amazing outdoor living spaces including private pools and outdoor kitchens.

Current school zoning for Timberlake includes Belmont Central Elementary School, Belmont Middle School, and Stuart W. Cramer High School. Please verify school assignments as boundary lines can change from one school year to the next.

In the past year, homes in Timberlake have sold for between $179,900 and $460,000. There are currently 2 homes on the market in Timberlake representing a 1.4 month supply of homes. This is much lower than the 4 month supply in Belmont as a while. This means that homes can go quickly.
