Philly food comes to Lake Wylie

New dining options seem to be popping up all over town in Lake Wylie, and it is always exciting when there is a new type of food for residents to enjoy that wasn’t previously easy to find.
A new restaurant just opened that will make Philadelphia transplants and cheesesteak lovers alike very happy. Now, Lee’s Hoagie House has roots in Lake Wylie, South Carolina.

It is the first franchise for the company to open outside of the Philadelphia area, and with Lake Wylie not having a cheesesteak and hoagie dining option, the company thought the town seemed like a great fit to move to. Furthermore, Lee’s plans to open a location in Asheville in the next three months, with a possible Charlotte location on the horizon as well. The Charlotte region is known to be home to many transplants from the northeast region, so the move for the company to this area of the country seemed only natural.
The Lake Wylie location of Lee’s Hoagie House will be located at 312 Bulkhead Way, Suite 101, in Lake Wylie Commons.

Lee’s Hoagie House has been serving cheesesteaks and other hoagie sandwiches in and around Philadelphia since 1953.  For more information on the new sandwich shop in town, be sure to read the full article that CharlotteObserver.com.

Belmont’s new restaurant has famous roots

Screen Shot 2016-06-12 at 9.28.00 PMBelmont is getting a new restaurant, and not just any restaurant. Pop musicians, The Jonas Brothers, and more specifically their dad, Kevin Sr., will be opening up a restaurant, slated to open tomorrow, June 13, at 11 AM. It will be called Nellie’s Southern Kitchen, named for Kevin’s maternal grandmother, and it will be located at 36 N. Main St. and will feature a lunch and dinner menu with items such as fried chicken, biscuits and gravy, shrimp and grits and housemaid pastries made by Pastry Chef Emily Pentecost. Chef Ben Sholiton, who was most recently a Charlotte catering chef, will be leading the kitchen.

The Jonas family can trace its North Carolina roots all the way back to the 1760s, and had  family members who worked in textile mills from the early 1900s until the late 80s. The family believes approximately 60 relatives are still living in the vicinity. Opening Nellie’s Southern Kitchen is a way to honor the family and also reinvest in Belmont. Belmont is thriving and they want to help bring even more visitors to the town.

The restaurant will occupy approximately 10,000 square feet in a building that had previously been home to an antique and consignment store that was purchased by the Jonas family in 2013. While the menu will focus on comfort food and southern classics, there will also be some lighter and healthier tweaks to some southern staples.

The opening of the restaurant has created approximately 100 full- and part-time jobs. Plans call for the restaurant to offer live music and entertainment as well as delicious food. The restaurant also has plans to offer a fast-casual concept called Nellies Pick Me Up starting June 20.

For more information on the restaurant, visit their Facebook page at www.facebook.com/NelliesSouthernKitchen/.

Screen Shot 2016-05-21 at 7.46.23 PMLake Wylie is getting a brand new Dunkin’ Donuts this summer, just in time for iced coffee season. The coffee chain will be opening at the Collett development site, just off of S.C. 49 and Carroll Cove Lane. The store opening has been in the works for a while and is looking forward to quickly becoming a part of the fabric of the Lake Wylie community.

The building will be approximately 2,000 square feet and will include the always important drive-up window. Free WiFi, digital menu boards and as many as 50 parking spaces will not only make this location super convenient, but it will also be the most up-to-date design that Dunkin’ Donuts offers and will be loaded with technology.

The Lake Wylie store is slated to open by the end of June and is currently a bit ahead of schedule. The shop will hire about 30 employees, both full- and part-time, with operating hours between 5 a.m. and 10 p.m. daily.

In addition to Dunkin’ Donuts, Lake Wylie is also getting a new Taco Bell in the same location, ready to satisfy your craving for Mexican-Style fast food.  With plans to hire about 40 new employees and to open on Memorial Day weekend, the store will be the latest prototype for the franchise, opening for breakfast at 7 a.m. and closing at midnight or even later.

The Collett development still has space for two more businesses to open in the center.
