Nestled in Northern York County along the shores of Lake Wylie is the community of Tega Cay, SC. Aptly named for the Polynesian words meaning “Beautiful Peninsula”, Tega Cay is a city unto itself and is run by a Council/Manager form of government with City Council meetings, it’s own police force, garbage and recycle collection, water, sewer, emergency squad and other services.
This heavily wooded, 1600 acre peninsula began development in 1970 and was originally styled with a Polynesian theme for housing, neighborhood and road names. Located near I-77 in the excellent Fort Mill School District, Tega Cay has grown to over 7,000 residents and has a variety of architectural styles and 
price ranges.
The city offers a wide range of activities and services with diverse neighborhoods, parks, playgrounds, event/business facilities, golf, tennis, pools, restaurants, clubs and organizations. Golf memberships are semi private and the course, located on 200 acres surrounding Lake Wylie, is the only 27 hole golf course in the region. The Tega Cay Golf and Conference Center (www.tegacaygolfclub.com) features a full service Clubhouse with restaurants, a pro shop, 4 tennis courts, a croquet club, event pavilion for large groups and the Glennon Community and Conference Center for groups up to 500 people. Tega Cay has a Parks and Recreation division for the young and the old with many sports facilities and fields, playgrounds, parks, picnic areas, walking trails and a dog park – aptly named “Central Bark”.
The Beach and Swim Center features a large 8 lane Junior Olympic size swimming pool, wading pool, beach area for lake swimming, fitness area and more. Single family homes come in a wide variety of styles and range in price from the $100,000’s to $900,000 depending on location (waterfront, golf, interior, etc) and size. There are several condominiums and townhouses available from the mid $100,000’s to $300,000’s again, depending on location. There are still some lots available to purchase and build your own home from as low as $20,000 up to waterfront lots in the $400,000 range. Tega Cay is located close to many area attractions for sports or outdoor enthusiasts and family outings such as the Anne Springs Close Greenway, Carolina Panthers, Carolina Thread Trail, Charlotte Knights Baseball, Nation Ford Greenway, Carowinds Amusement Park, open all summer and featuring Scarowinds in the fall, is only 20 minutes away. While Tega Cay enjoys low York County, SC taxes, Uptown Charlotte with it’s fine restaurants, shopping and cultural opportunities and the Charlotte Douglas International Airport are both only 30 minutes away. The city of Rock Hill, SC is only about 20 minutes away.
