Participating restaurants prepare special three course prix fixe menus for $30, $35, $40, $45, or $50 per person, depending on the restaurant, not including taxes and gratuity. Reservations are recommended, and restaurants could provide last minute changes if they are out of an item. Please check with each restaurant in advance if you have specific dietary needs.

Now that the plat review has been accepted, by a vote of 8 to 1, the next step of the project is to get the civil construction plan done. This will include a wetlands plan.  After that, utilities, roads, and sidewalks will be constructed. Once those are in place, homes will start to be erected.

The current plan calls for 34 homes on 46 acres. There are some easements for Duke Power that will take up 19 acres of the project. This means that 19 acres will not be developed so will be green space. The remaining 26.5 acres will have the homes and two new roads leading to a cul-de-sac. The community will share open space on the cove with direct access to the Lake, though not with a boat ramp. Residents will need to use public boat ramps or marina storage for watercraft. Lots should be around a half acre each. Home plans have not been drawn up yet, but could be large as the lots will accommodate larger homes.

Prix fixe menus are available for the event which is a perfect time to try out a new spot so you and whoever you are dining with can try new dishes, and share meals to get a taste of everything. The cost of these set menus is typically between $30-$45 per person not including gratuity. If you add drinks and extras, the cost goes up from there.

Festive trees will be decorated with holiday lights with the official lighting at 6:30 pm. A special display of “Oh Starry Night” in luminaries will be presented by Strong Like AK on the upper field of Stowe Park.

The event is located at 24 S. Main Street in the heart of Belmont. If you can’t get to the official lighting ceremony, never fear. The trees have decorations as well as lights so they can be enjoyed day or night throughout the month of December with an end date of January 3rd.

Luminaries can be purchased to light the “Oh Starry Night: Lighting a Path to Hope”. They are a fundraiser to help support pediatric cancer patient financial care and housing support. This is through the Strong Like AK foundation. They can be donated at this link for $20 each. This worthy cause helps ease the financial burden of some of the 1.7 million people diagnosed each year with cancer. You can dedicate your luminary to someone currently fighting cancer or in memory of someone lost to cancer. You can share the story of the person you are honoring and it will be on display for the entire month of December.

Go on a self-guided tour of the farm, get lost in the 2-acre corn maze, see and pet farm animals, lots of activities for the kids, and free popcorn. $10 admission per person with kids under 2 free. Pumpkins are $9 each.
• Shelby Corn Maze and Pumpkin Patch – 120 Broadway Dr, Shelby, NC 28152 – Open 4-10 pm Fridays, 10 am – 10 pm Saturday, 2 pm – 8 pm Sundays through October 30th. Admission includes pumpkin picking, 8-acre corn maze and 40+ other attractions. Haunted corn maze is after dark on Fridays and Saturdays. Pumpkin patch closes at 7 pm Friday and Saturday. Admission is $13 per person and includes corn maze, hayride, and 4 activity tickets. Pumpkins vary in price depending on size.

Catawba Riverkeeper announced on their website that “Out of concern for the well-being and safety of our volunteers, site captains, and staff around the uncertainty of the weather impacts of Hurricane Ian across the entire region, we have decided to CANCEL The Catawba Riversweep on October 1st, 2022.”

The Catawba Riversweep event brings together many different organizations, partners, and volunteers for community-wide stewardship. Many of these efforts will still happen, though in smaller ways. There are still many other ways you can also help to keep Lake Wylie and the surrounding waterways litter-free. There are additional monthly events listed on the Catawba Riverkeepers website, one as early as October 22nd. In addition, you can host your own cleanup. Catawba Riverkeeper will provide supplies if you can supply the people-power. Volunteers will also receive Riversweep t-shirts.

This annual Catawba Riversweep event will return on October 7, 2023. Anyone who has a vested interest in the Catawba-Wateree River Basin should come and help out so be sure to save the date.

The Abbey Creek Greenway is located near Wilkinson Boulevard and will ultimately connect the Catawba River to Loftin Park. The Carolina Thread Trail approved $30,000 for the purpose of acquisition of land for the construction of the greenway trail.

The Jack White Trail is located along Dave Lyle Boulevard in Rock Hill. It will connect the Manchester Creek Trail from downtown Rock Hill to the Catawba River. $30,000 was approved to design the extension.

In addition, there will be more extensions built by Catawba Lands Conservancy, Cramerton’s Rocky Branch Trail, and more in surrounding counties. In all, there are currently 350 miles of greenways and trails, and 170 miles of blueways already open to the public, with many more in the plan. There are many access points so you can enjoy exercising in nature from lots of locations near Lake Wylie.

We first told you about Drift in February of this year in this post. We detailed the two story space that will have a modern farmhouse style featuring craft beer and a selection of over 1,000 bottles of wine. The upstairs will be an event space available to reserve for private parties and corporate events.

Drift is brought to you by the owners of Pump House in Rock Hill and Napa at Kingsley in Fort Mill. This dinner with a view will be great for local residents, but will also be a draw for anyone in the Charlotte area with only a 30 minute drive to be back Uptown.

Drift will seat 280 people and has an indoor/outdoor dining experience due to glass walls that can be moved out of the way to take advantage of east-facing waterfront views. In inclement weather, you can watch a storm roll in through the glass wall, but be snug inside.

Drift is located in the McLean development close to Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden. For directions, the address is 315 Lanyard Lane, Belmont, NC 28012. Initial hours will be M-Th 4pm-10pm, Fri-Sat 4pm-11pm, and 3pm-9pm on Sunday. As the restaurant is more established they may begin brunch on the weekends and start lunch service during the week.

The first project up for a vote by the City Council is also the largest. At 184.9 acres, this Steele Creek project is expected to be approved as the Zoning Committee approved it with a  vote of 7-0 in favor. The petition for rezoning was filed by Steele Creek, LLC and involves property just south of I-485 and east of Steele Creek Road. Based on the filing, developers want a mixed use development with homes, offices, retail, and greenspace.

The next project before City Council is 102 acres located north of Mount Holly Road east of the Catawba River. This rezoning petition was filed by DHIC, LLC and Reventure Park Investments North, LLC. The proposed zoning change would make the land suitable for mixed-use, and innovation. The builders plans outline townhomes, apartments, community amenities, and a community boat dock. Staff recommendation is to approve the petition as long as transportation, environmental and site and building design issues are resolved.

Both projects have to go through the zoning approval process before they can get plans approved and break ground. It could be some time before units are available for sale or rent, but we will keep our eyes on the projects.

Drift will be a contemporary style chophouse located at McLean Marina in Belmont near the Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden. The building is a modern farmhouse/barn concept which harkens back to the farming roots of the surrounding area, as well as looking forward to the modern future. The second floor will be available for events and private parties.

The owners of the restaurant are also known for The Pump House in Rock Hill, and Napa at Kingsley in Fort Mill. If you like those, you’ll love Drift. Besides the seafood, steaks, and pasta, they will feature craft beer, and a selection of over 1,000 bottles of wine.

This exciting new space will be a big draw for the area which currently only has Papa Doc’s as a boat accessible restaurant. Papa Doc’s is in the space that was formerly T-Bones. The feel of the new restaurant will be a little less casual with a more upscale menu than Papa Doc’s so they won’t be direct competition.

The restaurant will open this spring and will initially only be open for dinner service. As the summer comes in, expect them to open for weekend lunches, and possibly more times as needed.
