Plenty of job opportunities are about to become available in Fort Mill. Although the positions are temporary, they offer a fantastic opportunity to be a part of a major Carolina landmark and institution.

Carowinds, which sits at the border between North Carolina and South Carolina between Charlotte and Fort Mill, is a 398-acre amusement park that is a well-known favorite among locals and tourists alike.

The ever popular theme park will be filling over 4,000 positions ahead of the 2017 season, ranging from entry-level roles to managerial positions. The entertainment department of the theme park is looking for comedic actors and variety performers, as well as singers and dancers. Auditions for the theme park’s live shows will be held on Saturday, February 4, Sunday, February 5, and Saturday, February 11, with registration taking place from 1-4pm.

Positions are also available for mascot characters as well as in admissions, cash services, food and beverage, guest services, human resources, marketing, maintenance and many more.

Carowinds is comprised of a variety of “mini parks” including a “County Fair” that has plenty of amusement rides and four new attractions that were added this year. Winterfest at the park pays tribute to the holiday season in a winter wonderland setting. Carolina Harbor is touted as one of the best water parks in the country with attractions for kids and adults alike. Cirque Imagine features highflying fun with incredible displays of strength, balance, athleticism and beauty in the Carowinds Theater.

October’s market update

Let’s take a look at the local market update for October 2016, according to the report from the Charlotte Regional Realtor Association. The big news with last month’s numbers is the year-over-year change in the drop in inventory.

For the entire CarolinaMLS area, October 2015 had 13,742 homes on the market representing 4 months supply of inventory. This year’s October numbers show only 10,570 homes on the market representing 2.8 months of inventory. This is a 23.1% drop in the inventory of homes for sale and a 30% drop in the months supply of inventory. With inventory as low as it’s been in a while, as well as an increasing demand among buyers, home prices are on the rise.

Lake Wylie, Fort Mill and York County overall have also seen a decrease in inventory, though the drops haven’t been quite as steep as that which we saw with the overall CarolinaMLS stats, and the rise in home prices hasn’t been quite as steep or as steady in these smaller markets.

Furthermore, regarding the entire CarolinaMLS area, new listings are up 2.7% from 2015, and closed sales are up 3.4%. However, new listings in Lake Wylie are down 9.6%, but closed sales are still up 4.9%. As far as York County is concerned, the numbers here are a bit bigger, with new listings up 15.8% from 2015, and closed sales up 11.3%.

The big takeaways here are that inventory is down creating a definitive seller’s market with rising home prices, and closed sales are up showing signs of plenty of activity in an active and strong housing market across the Carolina region. Stay tuned for next month’s stats!

April’s market report indicates a drop in inventory and a favorable seller’s market

Over the past year, Charlotte as a whole, and particularly the Lake Wylie area, has seen a shift from a fairly balanced market to more of a seller’s market, as the number of homes on the market continues to dip. According to April’s monthly report released by the Carolina Regional Realtor Association, inventory is low.

Lake Wylie had 4.4 months of inventory in April, with 367 homes on the market, whereas the same month a year prior had six months of inventory and 448 homes on the market. This 18 percent drop in homes for sale and 26 percent drop in months supply are significant. With less homes on the market and an increased demand, the sales price is driving up. Last month’s average sales price was $345,297 with the median sales price locking in at $300,000. The 2015 numbers for the same month were $312,646 and $273,000, respectively, indicating approximately a ten percent increase year over year.

Last month’s number of new listings in Lake Wylie were up over 25 percent from last April’s numbers, perhaps indicating a shift in inventory.

On the contrary, as for the entire Carolina Multiple Listing Service region, there was very little change in the number of new listings from April of 2015 to April of 2016. However, there was a drastic drop in inventory (down 34.1 percent), with months supply dropping from 4.4 months to 2.9 months, and total homes on the market dropping from 14,330 to 10,513 (down 26.6 percent).

Mecklenburg County saw a similar percentage change in inventory and had only two months supply of homes for sale available in April. The market certainly seems to be favoring the sellers, but we will have to stay tuned to next month’s report to see where the numbers will lead.
