The plan for the aquatic center covers 34,000 square feet of space. Included in the plan is a 50-meter pool, a warm water programming pool with zero degree entry for classes, therapy, and aquatic safety instruction. There will be spectator seating for over 1,200 people, clinical rooms, a weight room, and a hospitality suite.

The mission of Gaston Aquatics is to improve the health of the region by providing swimming instruction for all children and adults of all socio-economic levels. Death by drowning is totally preventable with correct training. In addition, they want to offer adaptive aquatics for differently-abled people, provide pool space for medially-focused rehabilitation, and provide programming for veterans as well. Rescue training will be available to train new lifeguards. In addition, there will be competitive swim teams and individual competition swimming for regional and national competitions. The aquatic center is intending to be a place of great determination, and hopefully victories great and small.

The new section runs from President James K. Polk State Historic site at 12031 Lancaster Highway in Pineville all the way to Gilroy Drive in Lancaster County, South Carolina. This specific section of trails also connects to the Cross Charlotte Trail or XCLT. The XCLT will eventually connect across the northern part of Mecklenburg County. This gives trail users a safe way to traverse all throughout the area without the worry of traffic and is also much more scenic than the roads and highways.

The project cost $8 million and included 2.5 miles of stream restoration, two pedestrian bridge crossings, five neighborhood connectors, three boardwalk systems, and two smaller bridge crossings. There are elevation changes closer to the South Carolina state line making this section of trails more challenging. There are public access points for the trails at the James K. Polk Historic Site, Pineville Lake Park/Belle Johnston Center at 330 Lake Drive, and at 12021 Lancaster Highway. Public parking spots are available at Gilroy Drive trailhead in South Carolina, and just North of the new section at 9800 Leitner Drive in Pineville.

As of the time this was written, there are currently 67 miles of greenway with another 11 miles under construction. 13 additional miles of trails are in the design phase. There are seven projects underway that should start construction in the next year creating 15 miles of additional trails. This is great for reducing cyclists on the roads and provides a safe and beautiful way to stay healthy.

Now that the plat review has been accepted, by a vote of 8 to 1, the next step of the project is to get the civil construction plan done. This will include a wetlands plan.  After that, utilities, roads, and sidewalks will be constructed. Once those are in place, homes will start to be erected.

The current plan calls for 34 homes on 46 acres. There are some easements for Duke Power that will take up 19 acres of the project. This means that 19 acres will not be developed so will be green space. The remaining 26.5 acres will have the homes and two new roads leading to a cul-de-sac. The community will share open space on the cove with direct access to the Lake, though not with a boat ramp. Residents will need to use public boat ramps or marina storage for watercraft. Lots should be around a half acre each. Home plans have not been drawn up yet, but could be large as the lots will accommodate larger homes.

Manors at Handsmill is located in the award winning Clover school district. This means lower South Carolina taxes, but stellar schools. To reach the neighborhood, head south on Hands Mill Highway from Highway 49, then turn left on Pinnacle Way. This great location is close to shopping, dining, and is an easy commute if you need to get into Uptown Charlotte.

Homes were built by True Homes between 2019 and 2022. They have one or two stories with between 3 and 6 bedrooms, 2 to 5.5 bathrooms and 2,157 to 3,614 square feet. There were originally 11 floor plans offered, and they include home offices, flex spaces, gourmet kitchens, butler’s pantries, trey ceilings, drop zones, and much more. Community amenities include two community marinas, docks, a sandy beach, park, playground, boat and RV storage, community garden plots, clubhouse, walking trails, pool, and fitness center.

In the past year, seven homes sold in Manors at Handsmill with the average price landing at $515,490. Most of these homes went under contract in less than 10 days on the market. This means that you need to be ready when one of these homes is offered for sale. There are currently two homes for sale, but they are already under contract. Mariners Bluff is located on a deep water cove right on the banks of Lake Wylie. This means that residents with waterfront homes have lake access even during drought conditions. For residents with interior lots, the neighborhood is conveniently located just one cove over from the Allison Creek Boat Ramp. Nearby Handsmill Highway will take you into the town of Lake Wylie, or you can head east to Fort Mill for many more choices, and highway access taking you into Uptown Charlotte.

Homes in Mariners Bluff were built starting in 2002, but there were a few lots sold in 2020 and 2021 for custom builds. Homes range from 2,100 to over 4,700 square feet with 3-6 bedrooms and 2.5-5.5 bathrooms. Some of the homes have full basements, finished or not that can provide additional living space or possibly a separate living area. Homes have large lots with old growth trees and fantastic views.

In the past year, only one home sold in the neighborhood. It was a waterfront home on over an acre and a half with a private boat dock and lift. It sold after 89 days on the market for $1,115,000. Homes without lake frontage have typically sold in the $500,000’s. There are currently no homes for sale in the neighborhood. The Palisades is located on the North Carolina side of Lake Wylie. There are many options nearby for shopping, dining, and entertainment. Rivergate is nearby as well with many more options.

Within the neighborhood, there are amazing amenities. You will feel like you live in a resort with a clubhouse, equestrian facilities, equestrian trails, fitness center, golf course, playground, pool, recreation area, security, sidewalks, street lights, tennis courts, and walking trails. The Palisades Country Club is in the neighborhood as well with opportunities for residents to join for a fee.

The neighborhood is so large, in fact, that there is an elementary school within the borders. Palisades Park Elementary is the school for many of the children who live in and around the community. There are also many private school options, as well as daycare centers close by for younger children.

Homes in The Palisades range from 4 bedroom 3 bathroom with just over 2,500 square feet all the way to 6 bedroom, 5 full bath, 3 half-bath with over 7,000 square feet. This diversity in homes leads to a diversity of prices as well. Smaller homes start in the mid-$400,000’s while the larger homes sell for upwards of $1.5 million. In the past year, 130 homes sold in the neighborhood and there are currently 26 homes for sale with another one coming soon. Some of these listings are for new construction homes so there is still an opportunity to be an original owner.

Masons Crossing is located off of Lake Wylie Road in the Crowders Creek section of Lake Wylie. Highway 49 is very close so you can easily connect to the town of Lake Wylie for shopping, dining, and community events. Across the bridge, you have even more options in Rivergate. A Charlotte commute is pretty reasonable, but most of these homes have home offices so working from home is a pleasure.

Homes in Masons Crossing are grand in scale and sit on estate sized lots. All of the homes are custom built with amazing and unique features. Waterfront lots will command a premium when and if they ever come up for sale. The interior lots have amazing old growth trees and plenty of privacy making them a retreat. Homes range between 2,500 to 7,300 square feet of living space and typically have between 3 and 5 bedrooms and 3 full and 1 half bath to 5 full and 2 half baths. Expect soaring ceilings, custom storage, gourmet kitchens, and spa-like primary retreats.

In the last year, just one home sold in Masons Crossing. There is currently one home listed for sale and it went under contract in the first month of being listed. Harpers Green is a gated community within walking distance of shopping, dining, and is right in the heart of Lake Wylie. The neighborhood is located just to the west of the southern turn of Highway 49 west of the Buster Boyd Bridge. This means that a commute to Uptown Charlotte is easy. Also nearby are public boat ramps, and McDowell Nature Preserve.

Homes in Harpers Green typically have 3 to 4 bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms in two story plans with around 2,000 square feet. They have open floor plans and oversized one or standard sized two car garages. There is plenty of storage and they even have drop zones. Kitchen islands are large and perfect for entertaining.

Exteriors of homes in Harpers Green have stone accents, shed dormers, shingle siding, or brick accents. Patio areas in the rears of the homes have small yards, fire pits, or roofs with ceiling fans. To make things easier on homeowners, lawn maintenance, exterior maintenance, and trash service are taken care of by the homeowners association.

In the past year, six homes in Harpers Green were sold. One of the homes sold the day it was listed, and the longest one stayed on the market was 16 days before a contract. These homes sold for an average of $343,050. There is currently one home on the market in Harpers Green, currently listed for $330,000. It has been on the market for 9 days so if the trend holds, it won’t last much longer before it goes under contract.

The airport has done some things to help mitigate the delays. Checkpoint B will be closed, but the airport has an app that will show you wait times at all of the checkpoints so you can find the shortest wait time. In addition, they are saying that you should arrive 2 hours early for domestic flights and possibly earlier for international flights.

Expected wait times should go from an average of 10-20 minutes to an average of 35-45 minutes. Since you can plan for this, make sure to eat and use the facilities before you jump into the line. You can have activities for young children to keep them entertained during the wait. If you have the means and the time, it is worth it to invest in TSA pre-check which can shorten wait times as well.

This renovation is part of the $608 million terminal lobby expansion project. This five year project is already about halfway done. Part of the project involves going from 5 checkpoints down to just 3, but they will be more technologically advanced and should shorten wait times going forward. The entire project is expected to be fully completed in 2025.

Homes in Forest Oaks were built between 1989 and 2009 with most of the homes built in the early 2000’s. They range in size from 1,100 to 2,300 square feet and most have a 1 or 2 car garage. These homes have 3 to 4 bedrooms and 2 to 3 bathrooms. Many of the homes have been remodeled and updated since the time they were built. Yards are small and easy to maintain.

These great smaller homes have starter home prices. In the past year, 22 homes sold in Forest Oaks with most of them going under contract in less than a week. They ranged from a 4 bedroom, 2.5 bathroom home with 1,730 square feet for $265,000 to a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom remodeled home with 1,553 square feet and an oversized lot for $370,000.

There are currently just two homes listed for sale in Forest Oaks. One home is already under contract. As the market has slowed we are seeing homes stay on the market longer before a sale so the other home has been listed for 63 days without going under contract yet. This could be your lucky day to get in this amazing neighborhood.
